NOTES FOR AUTHORS

Computational Methods in Science and Technology (CMST) is an interdisciplinary semi-annual publishing original papers from all areas of computational sciences. All articles submitted for publication will be reviewed. There are no page charges.

Paper submission

Submission of an article to Computational Methods in Science and Technology is understood to imply that the article is original, unpublished and is not being considered for publication elsewhere.

The contributions should be addressed to one of the Editors:

Requirements for preparation of articles

The articles, written in English, should be typed using a standard word processor according to the following instructions. The typescript should include: title page with title of article, name(s) of author(s) and address(es) of establishment(s) where the work was carried out, short title of not more than 50 characters, abstract, text, list of references, list of captions for illustrations.

Title page:

Title of the article should be concise yet informative. Short title, used in header, should not exceed 50 characters. If there are more authors, first their names should be given, followed by affiliation, the full postal addresses and e-mails. If an author's present address is different from the address where the work was carried out, this should be given as a footnote.

Abstract:

The abstract should be informative, not only indicating the general scope of the article, but also stating the main results and conclusions. The abstract should be complete in itself and should not exceed 200 words.

Key words:

A list of 3-6 key words has to be given just after the abstract.

Text:

The hardcopy of the typescript must be typed on one side of the standard size page with an ample left margin. The pages must be numbered consecutively. Articles should be divided into sections, and if necessary subsections, preferably: Introduction, Methods, Results, Discussion and References.

Any special characters (e.g. Greek, script, etc.) should be named in the margin where the character first occurs in the text. Footnotes should be avoided, if required, they should be used only for brief notes which do not fit well into the text. Tables may be included into the text. If table is typed on a separate page its position in text should be marked. The desired position of each illustration should be also marked in the typescript. Metric, SI units and the Celsius measurements should be used throughout. Abbreviations should be explained when they first appear in the text.

References:

References in text must be numbered consecutively by Arabic numerals placed in square brackets. All references should conform to the examples given below:

Journal article:

Personal communications or manuscripts “in preparation” should not be included to references. Such materials, if necessary, can be included into the text and left unnumbered.

Figures (illustrations) and figure captions: Illustrations (line diagrams, photographs) should be suitable for direct reproduction. It is recommended that figures be constructed either for the entire width of the type area (max 175 mm) or for the one column width (max 85 mm). In both cases the height of the figure cannot exceed 200 mm. The lettering as well as the details should have proportional dimensions to maintain their legibility after the necessary reduction. Original lettering, after the appropriate reduction, should appear at the size of about 8 to 11 points. The line thickness used for the line drawing should be related to the width of the diagram and the reduction that is likely to be used. Authors are advised that some computer-generated illustrations (e.g. screens) may not reproduce well. Photographs should be sharp and rich in contrast. The electronic version of illustrations should have a resolution of at least 300 dpi. Authors wishing to use the facility of colour printing should consult the publisher.

Biografical notes: Each paper should include biografical note(s) and photo(s) of its author(s) (about 180 words). Photo should have an appropriate resolution (min. 300 dpi).

Proofs: Authors will receive proofs for correction, which should be returned promptly. All joint communications must indicate the name and address of the authors to whom proofs should be sent.

Transfer of copyright. The authors are asked to submit a completed Assigmnent of Copyright Form. The authors will be sent a copy of the Assignment of Copyright Form.

Files with the source code: The authors are strongly requested to send the files containing papers prepared with the word processors (besides the hard-copy). Standard word processors, like Microsoft Word, TEX or WordPerfect are recommended; if less common processors are used, the authors are asked to add a version of the text in the ASCII format. Files containing charts or other illustrations (sent additionally to hard-copies) should be clearly described (including type and version of program used for their preparation).
