For four days (16-19.05.2011) Budapest became the European capital of Future Internet. And it is all because of the largest meeting of experts in this field – Future Internet Week conference. The event was also attended by representatives of PSNC, co-organizers of the next edition of FIW.
The participants of Future Internet Week could participate in several conferences, concerning Future Internet:
The main theme of the Hungarian conference was the technological, socio-economic and political aspects of the Future Internet.
The event, which is held every six months, is linked with the EU member country, which currently holds presidency of the EU structures. The event is primarily aimed at the presentation, promotion and understanding of the Future Internet projects co-financed by the European Commission. On this occasion, open or more environmental projects, meetings and workshops, working groups or communities of cooperating on specific aspects of the implementation of the next generation Internet are held.
During the official plenary session, closing the conference in Budapest, the Director of Poznan Supercomputing and Networking Center - prof. Jan Wêglarz, delivered his speech and invitated all the guests to Poznan. The next meeting of the FIA will be held in the capital of Wielkopolska, and is inseparably linked with the Polish Presidency in the EU, in the second half of the year 2011.
Although almost half a year remained to the beginning of Polish "Future Internet Week" (24-28.10.2011), the preparations for this event are going "full steam ahead”. It is due to the fact that on this occasion Polish achievements in this field and these solutions, which are local initiatives, not necessarily funded from the European Commission, can be presented on European forum. It is estimated that over a thousand people will take part in the Future Internet Week. It is worth recalling that this will be another so big international conference organized by PSNC. Organizational experience of PSNC began with the TERENA Conference (TNC) in 2005 in Poznañ, which was attended by over 500 people.
