May 25 LION international foundation organized the 6th world videoconference of otolaryngology and neurological surgeries. The essence of the project was an interactive simultaneous live transmission from the operating tables of various parts of the world. Interactive, because the viewers could contact operating doctors by moderators and ask them questions.

This year's event once again was participated by the Department of Otolaryngology of University of Medical Sciences in Poznań, represented by the head of the unit - Professor Witold Szyfter. Professor Szyfter, in the eye of spectators from countries all around the world, conducted a cochlear implantation and stapedotomy treatment, which allows treatment of otosclerosis.

In all, during one day of the conference, thanks to video conferencing twenty-four operations were performed by nineteen doctors from countries, such as: France, Germany, Austria, Belgium, Italy, Spain, Turkey, United Arab Emirates and Brazil.

Technical support in parts of operations that took place in Poznań was provided by PSNC, which provided audio equipment, HD video conferencing equipment and a dedicated link to the PIONIER optical broadband network. Because of the crucial importance of image quality during medical operations, the video signal was broadcast in High Definition quality(HD). The participants were provided with two channels of video conferencing, in which transmission took place.
