Surgeons from several countries are operating again “live” on the Internet
On 24 May 2012, LION International Foundation will organize the seventh global videoconference focused around otolaryngological and neurological surgery. The essence of the project is an interactive simultaneous broadcast “live” from the operating tables from different parts of the world. It is interactive, because the recipients will be in contact with operating surgeons and medical doctors and by moderators with the possibility to ask them question via moderators.

The Department of Otolaryngology of University of Medical Sciences in Poznan represented by prof. PhD. hab. Witold Szyfter will once again participate in this year’s event. Professor Szyfter, in front of spectators from countries around the world, will conduct cochlear implant treatment and stapedotomy, which allows the treatment of otosclerosis.

In total, during one day of using video conferencing tool, twenty-four operations will be performed by nineteen physicians from: France, Germany, Austria, Belgium, Italy, Spain, Holland, Switzerland, Turkey, United Arab Emirates and Brazil.

PSNC is responsible for the technical support over this event and will provide audio, HD video conferencing equipment, together with a dedicated connection to a broadband optical network PIONIER. The importance of image quality during medical operations is crucial, so the video signal will be broadcasted in High Definition (HD). The participants will be provided with two live video conferencing channels.

Video conferencing transmission will be available on 24 May from 9:00 a.m. at LION foundation web page: http://www.lion-web.org/pages/lion/web_live.html
