PSNC and perfSONAR at Internet2 Technology Exchange 2019

PSNC and perfSONAR at Internet2 Technology Exchange 2019

As part of its international involvement PSNC representatives, on behalf of the GN4-3 project (European Union’s Horizon 2020 research and innovation programme under Grant Agreement No. 856726), participated in the TechEX 2019 conference in New Orleans, USA, this week. Two topics in the areas of network performance monitoring and automation and orchestration of network services were presented at this global research and education community event.

One presentation was about building a new Graphical User Interface (GUI) to trigger on-demand measurements for an established mesh of perfSONAR measurement points. Thanks to a straightforward interface, network engineers can quickly launch new throughput tests directly from the perfSONAR dashboard and display the results in an easy to read fashion. This GUI will enable NOC teams to troubleshoot and solve performance degradation issues even more efficiently.

In the second presentation, the work of the Network Services Evolution and Development Task on the Automation, Orchestration and Virtualisation (OAV) was promoted, starting with the results of the OAV NREN Survey and the on-going work in the focus groups on OAV terminology, architecture, wiki and the Campus Network Management as a Service (CNaaS) use case, promoting in particular the OAV Community Portal which contains the references to the OAV work from EU and international NRENs.
