TERENA 2010: Digital cinema attracts attendees
The stand of Consortium PIONIER and Poznań Supercomputing and Networking Center enjoyed great interest of conference attendees this year. Network users could see there the results of Polish videoconference infrastructure in the PIONIER network, as well as remote, network, high-resolution video transmission – 4K, four times greater than modern, universal HD.
The central element of the Polish stand at this year’s TERENA conference was promotion of the greatest system in the PIONIER network service – Service Platform for e-Science PLATON. One of its components is HD video conferencing service. During an ongoing non-stop presentation you could see the current view of the cameras placed at 22 leading MAN centers – participants of the project. Videoconferencing halls in Łódź, Toruń, Gdańsk, Gliwice, Szczecin, Koszalin, Poznań and Puławy broadcasted the image directly on the monitor located in the Vilnius Reval Hotel lobby, where the conference took place.

TERENA participants were even more interested in 56-inch preview monitor of 4K television. Demonstration videos, emitted by a fast network from PSNC headquarter in Poznań and the University of Essex at a speed of 250 Mb / s, clear colors, shapes and deep sharp sound of this new digital cinema attracted many attendees. However, since this was strictly a network conference, the transmission parameters preview monitor also attracted attendees’ attention.

It is worth mentioning that, like last year, Pioneer was the only NREN (national research and education network) having its stand at the TNC’ 2010. It is also the largest and most “media” presentation of this year’s exhibition.
