New ideas and their fearless realization are the source of the PSNC’s growth and development. The crucial ones are:

  • own optical fibers – main concept for research networks;
  • Internet protocol (IP) – basic platform for all telecommunication and broadband services of new generation;
  • Optical and wireless technologies enabling broadband access always and everywhere;
  • Integrated service platforms – distributed computing networks enabling scalable users’ service and scalable information source;
  • Uniform and integrated management of network and grid resources;
  • Multi-criteria resource management systems as the background for efficient systems realization;
  • Universal virtualization of storage, organizations and users as the basic paradigm of advanced e-Infrastructure;
  • TDigital content and extensive network infrastructure creating new media dimension in the information era.


Owning a dark fiber has always been our dream and it has been the first idea since 1993 up to the present day. It helped us to build Metropolitan Area Network POZMAN  (1994) and National Research Network PIONIER (2003). Integration of optical fibers network technologies with wireless network technologies enables to realize truly broadband networks and access always and everywhere. The second idea we were guided by was the belief that the IP network associated with optical fiber would be a carrier for all telecommunication service and would inspire new generation services, such as backplane for a distributed computer. The relation of these two ideas makes possible to create integrated service platforms scaled to many millions of information sources and users. Main idea of their construction would be 3 paradigms, telling us that everything can be parallel, virtual and treated as service/storage."

Due to the information technologies’ development many spheres of our life has gained new shape and new nature in recent years. It is especially related to new means of communication and development in information management together with its processing, that influences particularly the media. Advanced services of computing and data management require from a supplier the well-balanced size of provided storage as well as its accessibility within the exact period of time. It means that we offer the minimum of the required hardware and software what is connected obviously with costs reduction. The way of achieving this goal is virtualization, which reduces costs, guarantees the required quality and assures the suitable security level. Virtualization has already being used and there is the possibility it would be commonly utilized in the coming days, not only in commercial services but also in the world of science as the basic concept of advanced e-Infrastructure”.

Since the beginning of PSNC activity our main idea has always been the support for massive-scale computing led by many scientist in Poland and abroad. To achieve this we must have solved many complex problems concerning supercomputers storage management. Thus, we have enabled easier and more efficient access to grid environment for an end user. The idea determined many new research directions for the coming years, connected with use of new generation service and innovative computing architecture enabling to create advanced computers’ simulations and to solve the most complex problems in education and industry.
