GridStart

GridStart was an initiative sponsored by the European Commission with the specific objective of consolidating technical advances in Europe, encouraging interaction amongst similar activities both in Europe and the rest of the world, and stimulating the early take-up by industry and research of Grid-enabled applications. The initiative brought together technologists, scientists, and industry in a multi-disciplinary approach to developing the Grid infrastructure.
Nine EU-funded projects have been clustered with the intention to stimulate wide deployment of appropriate technology and to support the early adoption of best practice. This was achieved by raising awareness of potential users of the solutions developed by connecting technology suppliers with those who deployed it and by fully identifying and exploiting synergies within the cluster.
The efforts made by PSNC included mainly the preparation of a report: ”IST Grid Projects Inventory and Roadmap.” The report contained directions of Grid technology development in Europe as well as suggestions concerning Technical Working Groups gathering experts from various research domains related to Grids.
