One area in which this is being applied is in UCoMS, the Ubiquitous Computing and Monitoring System (UCoMS) for discovery and management of energy resources. UCoMS addresses key research issues to arrive at appropriate technical solutions in the areas of HPC computing, sensor network systems, and distributed monitoring software. The technical solutions are expected to effectively facilitate drilling and operational data logging and processing, on-platform information distribution and displaying, infrastructure monitoring/intrusion detection, and management of complex surface facilities and pipelines. UCoMS is supported in part by the U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) and by the Louisiana Board of Regents, and it has been recently extended by Polish Ministry of Science. This is leading scientists at PSNC to closely cooperate with research teams at Louisiana State University (LSU), Center for Computation and Technology (CCT), and University of Louisiana at Lafayette to deal with challenging problems, including:

• real-time high resolution video processing,
• large scale computing fluid dynamics,
• parallel visualization and data analysis,
• remote computer tomography and structural analysis,
• and advanced web-based science gateways.
