VISIONAIR - VISION ADVANCED INFRASTRUCTURE FOR RESEARCH

Visionair is an acronym for "VISION Advanced Infrastructure for Research".

Visionair calls for the creation of a European infrastructure for high level visualisation facilities that are open to research communities across Europe and around the world. By integrating existing facilities, Visionair aims to create a world-class research infrastructure for conducting state-of-the-art research in visualisation, thus significantly enhancing the attractiveness and visibility of the European Research Area (ERA).

With over 20 members across Europe participating, VISIONAIR offers facilities for Virtual Reality, Scientific Visualisation, Ultra High Definition, Augmented Reality and Virtual Services.

Research actions carried out in the VISIONAIR project and aiming in implementation and testing the remote collaboration of multiple designers in locations distributed across the Europe have been completed and presented to wider publicity during two demonstration events in 2014. Research conducted by PSNC and its partners (KTH from Sweden, University of Bristol from U.K., University of Twente from Netherlands, I2CAT from Spain and University of Kaiserslautern from Germany) focused on enabling designers to simultaneously edit complex 3D models and allowing them the live observation of their work results using advanced visualization systems, just to mention holographic table, 3D UHD displays and CAVE. As the basic platform for rendering PSNC proposed VITRALL software, which was previously designed and developed by PSNC. For high resolution visualization requirements, the software was modified and adjusted during the VISIONAIR project.

During the ICT 2013 conference in Vilnius (6-8.11.2013) PSNC with cooperation of i2CAT and INRIA organized a networked art performance connecting real-time artistic actions in multiple cities around Europe. The Creative Ring demonstration, supported by the VISIONAIR project, presented advanced distributed research and artistic scenario that included musicians in Poznan, Barcelona and Vilnius, dancers and 3D motion-capture system in Grenoble as well as low latency video transmission over the GEANT network.
