PIONIER network covers all regions in Poland. Leading units of MAN (Metropolitan Area Network) and KDM (HPCCs – High Performance Computer Centers) provide services in their regions based on grid technology research, in particular by allowing broadband internet access to almost all Polish universities, research institutions, as well as a number of units of public administration, hospitals and other entities.

An extremely important element of the network is not only an easy access to resources (e-Content,) PIONIER and other research networks in Europe and the world, or the provision of data services, but the possibility to provide users with advanced PIONIER network and application service platforms to handle the specialized research needs, enriching network usage. And just such a modern platform is created in PLATON project.

The project aims to develop national ICT infrastructure (PIONIER network) of applications and services to support  research and development of Polish research teams for the innovative economy. The immediate objective of the project is the implementation of modern ICT services:

     * videoconferences,

     * eduroam,

     * campus services,

     *  archiving services,

     *  science hd tv services,

available to the scientific community in Poland, which is the realization of the European Union innovative Economy Operational Program,  submeasure 2.3.


Quality objectives are:

     * to increase the quality of services offered by academic units,

     * to improve working conditions of people employed in scientific community,

     * modernizing the educational base,

     * extension of education and forms of its benefits.

The result of these activities will concern academic units using advanced applications and services, as well as its ICT infrastructure. New jobs will be created, including new research posts. We will observe an increase in the number of entities using advanced network applications.
