Porta Optica Study was an EU-funded, 15-month project with the goal to prepare the development of high-speed, fiber-based research and education networks in Eastern Europe, Baltic states and the Southern Caucasus region. Expansion of academic optical networks is one of the key aspects of building the research and education infrastructure in the European countries, and one of the essential elements of the integrated growth of the European Research Area. Porta Optica Study addressed the disparity in the development of advanced research networks, especially visible in the Eastern Europe.
