The main objective of MUPBED is to integrate and validate the ASON/GMPLS technology in the long reach European test network with a view to use it in future European research infrastructures. The test network will be based on the project partners’ networks and will be open for external users, such as the EU research projects.

The key goals are:

• to identify network requirements for supercomputing applications used by the European research community and to copy them into ASON/GMPLS mechanisms,
• to find ways to effectively integrate the ASON/GMPLS network with IP/MPLS networks that will constitute a base for NREN networks,
• to solve problems related to the integration of heterogeneous network systems into a single coherent system, equipped with end-to-end Europe-wide services,
• to experimentally estimate the proposed solutions by testing them in labs and in the target environment of the European network and real users.
