The main goal of the HPC-Europa initiative is the provision of transnational access to HPC systems and a suitable computational environment. In this way, the project supports European researchers towards the aim of remaining competitive with teams elsewhere in the world and goes towards the deployment and operation of a “virtual infrastructure” for HPC.
The entire project is organized around its core activity which is the Transnational Access (TA) HPC service provision. Over the four-year lifespan of the action, this TA will provide HPC service, specialist support, scientific tutoring, and collaboration opportunities to more than 1000 European researchers (1096 in total with about the 25% of them accessing the facilities remotely).
HPC-Europa2 is based on the success of its predecessor, HPC-Europa operating in the years 2004–2007.
In HPC-Europa, PSNC led the development of the so-called Single Point of Access to resources controlled by diverse systems. Efforts made by PSNC in HPC-Europa2 include providing Web access to users’ data including visualization and analysis, and work on the so-called virtual cluster enabling users to test supercomputing environments on their PCs.
