ICT Research and Development Center

PSNC provides access to a world-class e-Infrastructure for the scientific community, a specific research and development environment – DIGITAL SCIENCE – for “proof of concept” projects, prototyping or large-scale pilot projects. Another branch of our activity is in DIGITAL INDUSTRY, which is focused on the creation of innovations based on Information and Communication Technologies (ICT), i.e. the execution of specific implementations for various fields of science and industry. Equally important is our work in the context of SOCIAL INNOVATION to spread knowledge and awareness of contemporary technological opportunities among various social groups, as well as actively fighting against digital exclusion.

For 30 years, we have been open to extensive cooperation both with research institutions to explore new areas of scientific challenges in joint projects and with industry partners – new entrants or large companies for which our competence and experience can become a strong asset to develop competitive innovation.     Announcement of the new map of NATO Defence Innovation Accelerators under the DIANA programme

    On 14 March 2024, a new map of test and accelerator areas under the NATO's Defence Innovation Accelerator for the North Atlantic (DIANA) programme was announced. The PSNC AerospaceLab in Kąkolewo is one of dozens of locations already selected in the North Atlantic Alliance for test centres (DIANA Test Centres). A new Polish contribution to the programme is the AGH University of Krakow, which together with the Krakow Technology Park will jointly run a branch of the NATO Defence Innovation Accelerator (Krakow DIANA Accelerator).

    Validation of the experiment in the AIM2ASSIST project

    The aim of the AIM2ASSIST project, conducted in collaboration with MASTA, MCH Poland and the Poznan Supercomputing and Networking Center, is to overcome the barrier of time and workload required to define production technology in a MeMOM-type system. During the recently completed experiment, the expert team developed and extended the MeMOM platform with three new software components.

    Presidium of the PIONIER Consortium Council elected for 2024-2026

    The reporting and election meeting of the PIONIER Consortium Council took place in the Staszica Palace, the seat of the Polish Academy of Sciences, in Warsaw, during which the election of the Council's Presidium took place. Dr eng. Maciej Stroiński - Deputy Chairman of the Steering Committee for the Development of the Poznan Supercomputing and Networking Center - was elected Chairman.

    The Researchers' Night project, in which the Poznań Supercomputing and Networking Center has been an active participant for many years, was awarded 14 out of 15 points in the European Commission's Horizon competition. The evaluation of the project highlighted, among other things, a comprehensive and interesting programme, interesting promotional activities, as well as the diversity of scientific fields represented by the consortium partners.

    Visit to the interior of the ITER fusion reactor

    Representatives of the Poznan Supercomputing and Networking Center took part in a meeting organised at the headquarters of the ITER Organisation (International Thermonuclear Experimental Reactor), prepared by the management of the TSVV11 (Theory, Simulation, Validation and Verification) EUROfusion and the Dutch eScience Centre. During the meeting, participants had the opportunity to take a closer look at the world's largest fusion reactor.

    In early 2024, the LOFAR ERIC consortium was officially established, which includes Poland, includes Bulgaria, Ireland, the Netherlands, Germany and Italy. The consortium will work on the European Low Frequency Array European Research Infrastructure.

    For the second time, RPG fans will take over the rooms of a tenement building at 20 Zwierzyniecka Street in Poznań. During the first day of the event, Krzysztof Kurowski, Ph.D., Deputy Director of PSNC will participate in a panel concerning the national research infrastructure EOSC-POLAND.

    DInGO – Digitize and Go

    The past year 2023 has brought many interesting solutions in the field of digital libraries and the aggregation of digital cultural heritage data. In cooperation with the Silesian Library and the University of Wrocław the following activities were carried out: the development of the DInGO software package, which resulted in the first implementations of the seventh generation of the dLibra system, characterised by a new layout of the user interface, a new method of searching resources made available in the system and their presentation taking into account the occurrence of search terms in the content of the object.

    INSENSION: supporting people with severe intellectual disabilities

    At the end of 2021, the PSNC, together with 5 partners from Poland, Spain, Germany and Slovenia, completed the INSENSION project, funded by the Horizon 2020 programme. This project was the world's first attempt to create a technological solution that enables people with profound and multiple learning disabilities (PIMD) to use digital services and applications. The target group of the project was people who remain at a presymbolic level of communication - people who can only interact with their environment in a non-symbolic way. Therefore, the technology and prototype developed in the project has great potential to support the interaction of people with PIMD with others.
