Poznań Supercomputing and Networking Center hosted thirteen employees from embassies of different countries in Germany last weekend. Diplomats from Albania, Romania, China, Greece, Serbia, Russia, Kyrgyzstan and Poland arrived in Poznań in the program of the German Ministry of Foreign Affairs. Visitors were presented the activity of PSNC, as one of the key features of Wielkopolska region.


At the Research for Industry Fair scientists from the Poznań Supercomputing and Networking Center presented the latest innovations in technology, developed in the center. Professionals from the Applications Department of PSNC developed an application which enables viewing and editing photos by performing gestures in front of a camera.


The stand of Consortium PIONIER and Poznań Supercomputing and Networking Center enjoyed great interest of conference attendees this year. Network users could see there the results of Polish videoconference infrastructure in the PIONIER network, as well as remote, network, high-resolution video transmission - 4K, four times greater than modern, universal HD.


Problems faced by entrepreneurs and scientists who set up cooperation in the commercialization of research results, the commercial value of the results of scientific projects, willingness of Polish research centers to supply products with both scientific and market value and the willingness of enterprises to take advantage of this research in their business. There were a lot of topics discussed at the conference in Gdańsk Science and Technology Park, because although the idea of commercialization of science is not controversial, it still faces many challenges.


"Science is a source of innovation" - Professor Jan Węglarz argued during his speech on the second day of the Economic Forum of the Poznań Agglomeration. According to the director of PSNC Poznań agglomeration is a center of innovation in Poland, but the conditions provided to Polish science lead to her slow decline. On the evidence of those powerful words professor quoted data on government funding of scientific research centers in the country. Despite assurances by politicians to increase budgetary spending for this purpose up to 2% of GDP by 2013, the budget for education in 2010-2011 was only 0.42% of GDP.


The second edition of the International Conference GeeCON associated with the language JAVA, which took place last week in Poznan, ended in organizational success as well as for the Poznan Supercomputing Network Center.


On 14-15 of April 2010 in Kiev, Ukraine the IV conference “Library and Book in the Context of Time” was held. The conference scope joins scientific topics with the information useful for practitioners. The main organizer of this conference is the National Parliament Library of Ukraine. In this year the main topic of the conference was “Libraries activities on the preservation of national cultural heritage”.
